The Points North Institute and Camden International Film Festival (CIFF) are proud to present GLIMPSES, a selection of shorts from the Camden International Film Festival.
This international showcase includes several award-winning titles from CIFF’s 2016 shorts programs, as well as one recently completed short from the Points North Institute’s inaugural Short Form Editing Residency.
The Camden International Film Festival is recognized as one of the top documentary film festivals in the world, and an Academy qualifying festival for the Documentary Short Subject Award. The 13th edition of the Camden International Film Festival and Points North Forum will take place September 14 – 17, 2017 throughout Camden, Rockport and Rockland, Maine.

The film explores moments of tension between commerce and individuality, between the goods for sale and the humans who sell them.

A ten meter diving tower. People who have never been up there before have to choose whether to jump or climb down. The situation itself highlights a dilemma: to weigh the instinctive fear of taking the step out against the humiliation of having to climb down. TEN METER TOWER is an entertaining study of the human in a vulnerable position.

The young Abdullah family fled the Syrian civil war and settled in Pretoria, South Africa. There, in their one room apartment, the Internet is all that connects them with Aleppo. As long as the Wi-Fi is working back in Syria, they can Skype with family and friends in their home city. News videos show the buildings they knew disintegrated and old neighborhoods deserted. But the greatest disappointment of all is seeing the changes in people whom they were close to. They hear about the deaths of family members, of how they got drawn into the conflict and the unexpected things they did.

Reda is 26 years old. His dreams of escaping the Palestinian refugee camp of Ain El-Helweh ended in failure after three years trapped in Greece. He returned with a heroin addiction to life in a camp being torn apart by internal strife and the encroachment of war from Syria. Against all odds he decides to marry his childhood sweetheart; a love story, bittersweet.
