A WORD AWAY

ABOUT

Cosmo, originally from South Sudan seeks help from a childhood friend 'Moon', a poet. Having lived over a decade in Maine, USA, after having to flee his home country, he attempts to tell his story for the first time through the medium of poetry, after 18 years of selective mutism. We follow Cosmo and his family's journey through a period of his life of reflection and recovery. His perspective of life as a New American Citizen are done poetically yet ambiguously, whilst his father John relives the past of his native home South Sudan, as he works in the beautiful fields of Maine as a farmer. This story seeks to understand the meaning of 'home' and the ripple effects that are caused when a home is not so willingly offered by the countries receiving such courageous people.
