At age two Georgina Sappier-Richardson was removed from her home and Passamaquoddy community in downeast Maine by child protection services. She would never see her parents again. DEAR GEORGINA follows this Passamaquoddy elder from Motahkomikuk as she tries to fill in the blurry outlines of her identity. Now a grandmother Georgina attempts to re-integrate herself into the community she barely knew. DEAR GEORGINA is a follow-up to the Emmy® nominated DAWNLAND (PNI 2014, CIFF 2018).
Ben Pender-Cudlip is an Emmy-winning documentary filmmaker and cinematographer. He co-directed and photographed the feature documentary DAWNLAND (PBS Independent Lens, 2018) which won multiple festival awards and a national Emmy in 2019. Ben has shot and directed over a dozen short documentary films, including SANJIBAN (Hot Docs, 2012), FIRST LIGHT (Camden, 2015), and DEAR GEORGINA (Camden, 2019), all of which aired on public television. He contributed additional photography to documentaries including TICKLING GIANTS (Tribeca, 2016), THE PEACEMAKER (Full Frame, 2016), BEST AND MOST BEAUTIFUL THINGS (SXSW, 2016), and XY CHELSEA (Tribeca, 2019). In addition, Ben freelances as a cinematographer for clients that include FRONTLINE, The New York Times, and the PBS NewsHour. He lives in Boston and graduated from Bard College at Simon’s Rock. Adam Mazo is an Emmy® award-winning filmmaker and the director of the Upstander Project. He co-founded the Upstander Project with Mishy Lesser in 2009. He is the co-director and producer of the Emmy® award-winning feature-length film, Dawnland (Independent Lens, Woods Hole Jury Award for Best Documentary 2018), First Light (Camden International Film Festival 2016) and Dear Georgina (Camden International Film Festival 2019). Adam directed and produced Coexist (WORLD Channel, Africa Movie Academy Award Nominee 2014), and he is currently co-directing and producing the upcoming short Bounty. His films have been broadcast on domestic and international television, programmed at film festivals and international conferences, and screened at universities, middle and high schools, where they are also often used in curricula. He is originally from Minnesota, graduated from the University of Florida, and now lives with his wife and sons in the territory of the Massachusett people, aka Boston.
