THE LOOKOUT steps inside the day-to-day working life of Leif Haugen, a fire lookout tasked with spending a season manually scanning the landscape for untamed wildfires while he lives a life of quiet solitude on top of a mountain in northwestern Montana.

Brian Bolster's short documentary films have screened at over eighty international film festivals including Sundance, Full Frame, Outfest, and AFI Docs, and have been distributed by The New Yorker and the Atlantic. His most recent film, Departing Gesture, won the Grand Jury Award for Best Short Documentary at the 2019 Florida Film Festival and the Audience Award for the Wrap's 2019 Online Film Festival. Other awards include the 2017 New Hampshire Film Festival Film of the Year for his short film, Winters Watch, and Best Director at the 2016 Tacoma Film Festival for his documentary, The Tricks List. Brian's short documentary, The Lookout won the Big Sky Award at the 2012 Big Sky Documentary Film Festival. In 2014 his short documentary One Year Lease won the award for Best Documentary Short at the Tribeca Film Festival and was a Cinema Eye Honors 2015 nominee for Outstanding Achievement in Nonfiction Short Filmmaking and was a finalist for The Wrap’s Online Short List Film Festival.
