ABOUT
Hanif is a Muslim casket maker and ritual body washer in Newark. He mentors two young men- Furquan and Naz- to teach them how to live better lives. Hardship comes when Furquan's home life becomes more turbulent and Naz gets caught up in a serious arrest. Hanif begins to fear he has failed as a mentor. But during each of their darkest moments- through faith, navigating grief, and finding redemption, they discover their purpose.
Zeshawn is originally from Ohio and a graduate of Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. He has directed narrative and documentary shorts and was also a producer at Droga5. “Two Gods” is his first feature film and has received support from Tribeca Film Institute, ITVS, Ford Foundation, Sundance Institute, Points North Institute and Hot Docs. He is a member of Brooklyn Filmmakers Collective and a filmmaker in residence at Meerkat Media. He is currently based in New York.
AMAN ALI is an award winning storyteller and filmmaker based in New York City. He's been featured in the NY Times, CNN, NPR, NBC News, HBO for his work promoting Muslim American narratives. He has traveled to all 50 states and 27 countries to tell stories to audiences of thousands of people worldwide. His current film, Two Gods, about a Black American Muslim casketmaker in Newark, NJ, is premiering on Vice/PBS this year and has won several awards at film festivals worldwide. The film currently has a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
