POINTS NORTH CAMPUS
Points North Campus is an educational initiative that provides college students an opportunity to connect directly with filmmakers and industry professionals throughout the festival weekend, allowing them to participate in discussions about the craft and business of documentary film and media. These small group discussions are designed to augment the classroom experiences, facilitating the building of cross-institutional networks, exposing students to possible career pathways and giving them an up-to-date understanding of the state of the industry.
The program builds on long-standing partnerships with colleges and universities, including University of Maine and Unity College, both of which offer specific courses in conjunction with the festival. Since 2016, we have expanded our Points North Campus program to include additional students from Emerson College, School of Visual Arts, Bates College, and Northwestern University. Our goal is to create a mini-campus environment within our festival setting for students to interact with the 100+ filmmakers and industry delegates visiting during the Camden International Film Festival and Points North Forum.
Participating students receive an All Access badge, which guarantees admittance into film screenings, masterclasses, panels, and workshops. In addition, each morning during the festival students take part in exclusive conversations with attending filmmakers, media artists, producers, journalists, and other special guests to dive deeper into the filmmaking process, and other themes represented in the festival and forum programming.
The goal of the Points North Campus is to provide a unique experience for students interested in a career in media production. Through a number of hands-on opportunities for students to learn from esteemed industry mentors, directors, producers, editors, and sales agents, we can provide an unparalleled experience for students to understand the evolving independent film and media landscape and discover the various career paths to follow after graduation.
