Alison McKellar has collected donations in the mid-coast area to send to Syria for the past several years. Many items that are typically thrown out at the local transfer station, such as plastic wrap for boats, crutches, walkers, and used medical equipment, have found a new life in Syria helping out refugees. She partners with a non-profit organization called NuDay Syria that is based in New Hampshire. Nadia Alawa is the president and founder of NuDay Syria and works with activists across Syria to distribute donations across the country. NuDay Syria sends forty-foot shipping containers to Syria regularly, requiring an army of volunteers to help sort and pack the containers the same day they arrive.
