POINTS NORTH 1:1 MEETINGS

September 13, 2019

During CIFF, projects shortlisted for the Points North Fellowship and filmmakers selected for our other Artist Programs are offered a series of 20-minute meetings with a selection of our top industry guests.

Funders, broadcasters, producers, and other decision makers select their project meetings in advance. Over the past two years, we have welcomed industry delegates from the Ford Foundation | Just Films, ITVS, Tribeca Film Institute, Netflix, PBS, San Francisco Film Society, HotDocs, Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program, and Discovery, to name but a few.

In 2019, the following filmmakers will take part in a day of invitation-only meetings with select industry on Friday September 13th. Their projects have been selected among the following cohorts: 12 projects shortlisted among 250+ applicants for the Points North Fellowship, 6 LEF Foundation Moving Image Fund Grantees, 8 BAVC 2019 MediaMaker Fellows, and 2 Camden/TFI Retreat 2019 Alumni

WHY SHORTS?

At the Points North Institute, we have long been champions of documentary shorts. They allow filmmakers to experiment with the documentary form, release timely films more quickly, and engage wider audiences through digital platforms. Perhaps most importantly, the growing number of outlets for documentary shorts can help expand and diversify the field by lowering barriers to entry like the cost of production and distribution.

The Shortform Editing Residency, now entering its 4th year, builds on our longstanding commitment to short documentary filmmaking through our highly-curated and wildly popular shorts programs at Camden International Film Festival — Shorts First, Shorts X, and Dirigo Docs — as well as prior artist development programs like the New York Times Op-Docs Pitch @ CIFF (2013) and the AJ+ Pitch @ CIFF (2014).
