AJ SCHNACK is a nonfiction filmmaker, artist and writer based in Los Angeles. His nonfiction film work includes Long Gone Summer (2020), Speaking is Difficult (2016-2018), Caucus (2013), We Always Lie to Strangers (2013), Convention (2009), Kurt Cobain About a Son (2006) and Gigantic (A Tale of Two Johns) (2002). From 2008-2018, Schnack engaged in a decade-long cinema vérité project focused on the American electoral process, creating two feature-length documentaries, two multi-part series for television, a short form series for Vanity Fair and the permanent, multi-screen art installation Ritual Political at the Eaton Workshop in Washington, D.C. He is a co-founder of the LA-based production company, Bonfire Films of America. He the Founding Director of the Cinema Eye Honors. He is a Co-Creator and former Executive Producer (2015-2017) of the cinematic journalism platform Field of Vision. He wrote the documentary-focused blog All These Wonderful Things from 2005-2011.
