Novy Svet
ABOUT
Nový Svět (A New World): Music and dance intertwine in this intimate contemplation of the violent and exploitative global commercial sex trade; an expansive problem, expected to worsen with escalating displacement as a result of climate change, humanitarian disasters and other major socially disruptive events.
An independent art historian based in Rockport, Maine, Alexandra advocates for those exploited in the commercial sex industry through arts and education initiatives including TEDxDirigo Dissonance (2016): Eyes Wide Open: Understanding Sex Trafficking and two anti-sex trafficking film forums in Boston/Cambridge (2010-12). Her short dance film, Nový Svět (A New World) is a contemplation on modern slavery. Alexandra spent over 20 years working with private collections and museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Lobkowicz Collections, Prague Castle, Czech Republic. She has served on the Maine Humanities Council, the board of directors of Knox County Homeless Coalition, the Collection Committee at the Portland Museum of Art and on the Harvard Art Museum Fellows Council. Alexandra holds a B.A. from Harvard College (magna cum laude) and an M.A. from the Institute of Fine Arts, NYU
