In Salamanca time stopped two hundred years ago, when the first Mennonites came to Mexico in search of their place on the Earth. Here everything is predetermined, and lives of the descendants are repeating lives of their ancestors. Private story here is only a part of family history, and one man’s destiny tells us about any other one.

Born in Belarus, Ruslan graduated from the Academy of Arts in Minsk, as a cinematographer. In 2015 he moved to Moscow to carry on his studies at the Moscow School of New Cinema. Ever since, Ruslan has been developing his career as independent documentary filmmaker, with several of his works being premiered and recognised by international festivals such as: IDFA, HotDocs, Vision du Reel, True/ False, DocAviv, HKIFF.

Sasha Kulak is a multi-award winning director and cinematographer who's view focuses on the thin layers of reality invisible to the human eye. Born in Vitebsk, Belarus, her films have taken her to communities all over the world whether it be the Mexican mennonites ("Salamanca", 2015, 41’), an abandoned mining town in the USA ("Quicksilver Chronicles", 2019, 75’) or the Belarusian protests of 2020 ("Mara", 2022, 61’). Her latest film “A hawk as big as a horse”, 77’ made in collaboration with Arte La Lucarne, won a special mention at Dok Leipzig in 2022.
