THE IMPOSTER walks the line between true-crime documentary and stylish noir mystery. It begins with the disappearance of Nicholas Barclay, a 13-year-old Texan who vanishes without a trace. Three years later, news arrives that the boy has been found in Spain, saying that he has survived kidnap and torture. His family is ecstatic, but things become strange when he returns home. Though his family accepts him, suspicion surrounds the person claiming to be Nicholas. The boy has returned with darker skin, eyes and his personality and accent have changed profoundly. If this person who has arrived in Texas isn’t the Barclay’s missing child, who on earth is he?
