DIRIGO SHORTS: THE FILM LIFE OF CHARLES NORMAN SHAY, PENOBSCOT ELDER
ABOUT
Born in 1924 Mr. Shay has led a remarkable life. He is a Penobscot tribal elder, writer, and decorated veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. Trained as a surgical technician, his first combat experience was on Omaha Beach on D-Day. After the war he was stationed in Vienna, where he married Lilli Bollarth, who would be his wife for 57 years. Mr. Shay will be in attendance to share his films and provide commentary. He will be introduced by Jennifer Neptune, a Penobscot Tribal member, anthropologist and basketmaker. Mr. Shay's films were preserved by Northeast Historic Film thanks to a grant from the National Film Preservation Foundation.
