Suddenly allergic to light at 53, John Kapellas (now 63) has spent the last decade constructing a life in darkness after a lifetime of cavorting in the light.
Jason Hanasik is a documentary filmmaker, journalist, and visual artist whose work has been exhibited at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery, the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), and other international and domestic museums, galleries, and film festivals. His short film "How To Make A Pearl" was distributed by The Guardian and nominated for a Student Academy Award and an IDA Award. His second film for The Guardian's Documentaries Division, "A Childhood on Fire," screened at SFFILM's DOC STORIES, Aesthetica Short Film Festival, and won a Special Mention at DOC NYC. His first film for the BBC, "Tomorrow will be a better day in an unknown world," is the first film, released by a major broadcaster, to explore the detrimental effects of gay conversion therapy on individuals living in the Middle East. Jason has a Master of Journalism from UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism and a Master of Fine Arts from California College of the Arts.
