Shot inside a Siberian prison camp and the surrounding countryside, this absorbing documentary traces the individual paths of three young women now at different points in their lives: Tatiana, whose parole hearing and early release are captured on film; Natasha, living in freedom with her family in a remote village; and Yulia, not yet twenty and facing still more prison time.

Maria Ibrahimova’s debut film, the documentary MISS GULAG, was produced with support from the Sundance Institute and the Ford Foundation. It premiered at the Berlin Int. FF and screened at 40+ festivals and on TV including on the BBC. Maria also directed and produced several award-winning short films, and documentaries as well as commercial work through her production company Cinex, based in Baku, Azerbaijan. She is a two-time Berlinale Talent, and a Fulbright Fellowship recipient. She recently produced her first feature film, FISHERMAN’S DAUGHTER, with Russian producer A. Rodnyanski (LEVIATHAN, LOVELESS), distributed by Wild Bunch and premiering at the Moscow Int. FF. Currently, she is developing her directorial feature debut HAZEL EYES with Turkish producer Z.Atakan (ONCE UPON A TIME IN ANATOLIA, WINTER SLEEP), which was presented at the Berlinale Co-Production Market.
