Overshadowed by weekly, racist demonstrations in East Germany former factory workers of the German Democratic Republic come together with Syrian refugees. They embark on a self-taught immigration course to share the memories of their lost homelands.
Florian Kunert (1989) is a German media artist and film director. His works touch the fields of visual arts and hybrid filmmaking. The short film ‚Oh Brother Octopus‘ premiered in the Berlinale Shorts Program in 2017 before winning the German Short Film Prize. As part of making the film, Florian lived in Indonesia for one year. He studied documentary direction at La Escuela Internacional de Cine y TV in Cuba and has completed a post-graduate at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne. His first feature film 'Progress' premiered in the Forum section of the Berlin International Film Festival and won the German Short Film prize for best mid-length film 2019.
