Filmmaker Solidarity Fund2020-08-11T16:08:34-04:00

During this time of uncertainty and upheaval, we are committed to an ongoing examination of how power and resources are distributed in the documentary film industry and how we can build solidarity with filmmakers to create more equitable, sustainable conditions for the creation and distribution of documentary films — particularly for filmmakers that for too long have been marginalized or excluded by the industry.

As CIFF moves online, we see an opportunity to fundamentally re-imagine our relationship to filmmakers and address their needs more directly. In the process, we can also offer audiences and participants the most accessible, inclusive and global edition of the festival yet.

This year, 50% of net proceeds from our CIFF Virtual pass and ticket sales will go back to the filmmakers — via a funding pool that will be divided evenly into honoraria for every director in the CIFF program.

You can support this year’s CIFF filmmakers by buying a pass, contributing directly to the Filmmaker Solidarity Fund, or making a tax-deductible donation to the Points North Institute.
