DRIVER
ABOUT
In this powerful and intimate portrait, women truck drivers find both solace and struggle on the open road. Filmmaker Nesa Azimi rides along in the passenger seat, capturing their charm, daily rituals, and lived realities—from isolation, harassment and threats of violence to systemic inequities within the trucking industry. Despite these formidable challenges, Desiree and her fellow drivers remain undeterred, forging a resilient and enduring community that navigates the complexities of life on the road with humor, camaraderie, and an unyielding spirit.
Nesa is a director, producer and editor living in New York City. She started out at The Maysles Documentary Center and has since been on staff as a producer for Rain Media, PBS FRONTLINE, FAULT LINES on Al Jazeera, National Geographic, and the Ciné Institute of Haiti. Three films she helped produce for FRONTLINE were recognized with Emmy Awards. Nesa has been a fellow with the Sundance Institute, NYSCA/NYFA, the Firelight Documentary Lab, and the Points North Institute. DRIVER, which premiered in competition at Tribeca Festival, is her first feature film.
